Farmers association (AFASA) says KZN farmers have so far reported no major incidents
The African Farmers Association of South Africa (AFASA) in KZN says it is monitoring the impact of ongoing inclement weather on farmers.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) had warned of isolated losses of vulnerable livestock and crops in the southwestern region, which remains under a Yellow Level 2 alert for disruptive snow.
Transport officials worked through the night to prevent snow from building up on major routes.
Association monitoring impact on farmers
AFASA's Lloyd Hadebe says they had already warned farmers to prepare for the weather, and make sure livestock was well looked after.
He says so far, farmers have reported no major incidents.
"Our concern is that because it's wintertime and on the fields there, there's not enough grass for animals, it's going to be worse towards our small farmers.
"But we were ready as AFASA and our members, for this particular weather."
