The trial is scheduled from 5 October to 6 November 2026, with another session planned for April 2027 and 45 witnesses expected to testify.
The seven men accused of the murder of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane are going on trial.
The trial was initially scheduled to begin in July, but State prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba told the court there were outstanding pre-trial matters and that some parties were no longer available during that period.
The group of suspects appeared in the Durban High Court on Thursday, where the matter was certified trial-ready.
The trial has been set down from 5 October to 6 November, with another session scheduled for April next year.
A total of 45 witnesses are expected to take the stand to give their version of what happened over three years ago when Forbes and Motsoane were shot dead outside a restaurant on Durban’s Florida Road.
The court also heard that consultations have begun to bring the accused to eThekwini during the trial periods, after their defence teams raised concerns about the difficulty of consulting at the super-max Ebongweni Correctional Centre in Kokstad.
The judge warned counsel that she would not tolerate any further delays and that the matter must not go beyond 2028.
