Given Msimango, the former captain of Kaizer Chiefs, has shared a heartfelt farewell message following his departure from the club. The 27-year-old centre-back parted ways with Amakhosi over the weekend and is expected to join Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership.
Msimango, who signed with Chiefs in 2023 under coach Cavin Johnson, quickly earned the captain’s armband due to his early promise. Unfortunately, injuries limited his appearances and he fell out of favor with successive coaches, including Nasreddine Nabi.
Despite a strong comeback towards the end of last season due to Zitha Kwinika's injury, Msimango ultimately found himself leaving the club. In an emotional post on Instagram, he thanked the club, teammates, and fans for their support during his time at Naturena.
"Thank you, Kaizer Chiefs, for giving me memories that will last a lifetime. It was an honour to wear this badge and be part of this great club. I leave with gratitude in my heart and wish the club nothing but success," Msimango stated.
His departure adds to a series of high-profile exits as Chiefs revamp their squad ahead of the upcoming season, raising speculation about his possible return to national team duties.
Key Moments
Msimango joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2023 and quickly became the captain. Despite showing promise in his debut season, repeated injuries affected his performance and standing in the team. He attempted to reclaim his position in the latter part of the last season, stepping up when Zitha Kwinika was injured.
What's Next
Msimango is expected to join Stellenbosch FC, which could provide an opportunity for him to rejuvenate his career after a challenging period at Chiefs. His departure also signals a larger transition for Kaizer Chiefs as they seek to enhance their squad in preparation for the upcoming season.
