HOW MUCH COULD GRANTS INCREASE BY?

As last count, it was targeting more than 300 000 suspect profiles and said it’s saved more than R170 million already thanks to this process. However, the DSD also revealed in parliament earlier this year that it had underspent its budget on social grants by R4.8 billion for the financial year 2025/26.

Simple calculations reveal that split across all four-million Old-Age Grant recipients, SASSA could increase grants by R100 per month for a full year and not need any more budget.
