Daniel Koppel – known as South African singer Danny – has paid tribute to his late wife, Lisa Koppel, who died over the weekend.
The award-winning artist confirmed that the mother of his three children had died of cancer
Lisa was a model-turned lawyer, and the daughter of mega-attorney Billy Gundelfinger.
DANNY K PAYS TRIBUTE TO WIFE LISA KOPPEL
On his Instagram account, Danny K broke his silence on his wife Lisa Koppel’s passing.
The R&B singer revealed that his 41-year-old spouse had endured a private battle with colorectal cancer over the last three years.
He shared: “She fought with extraordinary strength and determination. Together with our family, we searched for hope in South Africa and around the world, pursuing every treatment and every opportunity available to us. Tragically, despite everything, we could not save her.
Danny shared that Lisa chose to keep her illness private as “she never wanted pity, attention or sympathy”
He continued: “Above all, she wanted to protect our children and preserve their happiness and innocence for as long as possible. Even through the hardest moments, she remained gentle, humble and remarkably brave, inspiring everyone who walked this journey beside her”
“The Koppel and Gundelfinger families have been left shattered. I have lost the wife I worshipped, our three children have lost an extraordinary mother, and her family and friends have lost someone they deeply loved”.
Danny K used the tragedy to raise awareness.
He added, “We are sharing Lisa’s diagnosis now for one important reason: awareness. Colorectal cancer screening was traditionally recommended from age 50, but the disease is increasingly affecting younger people. Today, international guidelines recommend routine screening from age 45 for people at average risk. Persistent symptoms should always be discussed with a doctor and properly investigated.
“Lisa hoped that one day she would use her experience to raise awareness of this disease and help others through early detection. She never got that opportunity. Our family will now carry that purpose forward in her name.
“Lisa’s illness will never define her. She will be remembered for the way she lived and loved: with kindness, humility, courage and an unwavering devotion to the people who meant everything to her”.

Colorectal cancer is cancer that develops in the colon (large intestine) or rectum.
It forms when cells lining the bowel undergo abnormal changes and develop into a polyp, some of which gradually become cancerous.
It is treated if detected early.
Symptoms of polyps include rectal bleeding, changes in bowel movements, abdominal pain or cramping and persistent bloating, among other things.
As Danny K suggested, screenings, like a colonoscopy, are important for detecting precancerous polyps and removing them before cancer develops.
