Thursday, 13 August’s Daily Snow Report shows the week’s system continuing to ease, with the Eastern Cape’s disruptive snow warning now downgraded to a simple advisory.
SAWS warns of very cold conditions and icy or slippery roads over Emalahleni, Sakhisizwe, Senqu, Elundini and Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, a significant step down from Tuesday’s Orange Level 6 disruptive snow warning for the same municipalities.
A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging interior winds and dust storms now covers the northern West Coast District, Witzenberg municipality and the Namakwa district until Thursday evening.

SAWS also warns of extremely high fire danger over Nama-Khoi and Hantam in the Northern Cape, along with Matzikama and Cederberg in the Western Cape.
CLOUDY, COOL TO COLD CONDITIONS SETTLE IN ACROSS THE COUNTRY
According to SAWS, Gauteng sees a cloudy, cool to cold day.
Mpumalanga and Limpopo both start with morning fog patches over the Escarpment, otherwise turning cloudy to partly cloudy with isolated showers and rain in the east.
North West sees cloudy and cool to cold weather, while the Free State stays cloudy and cold with morning fog in the extreme east.
The Northern Cape stays fine and warm over the extreme west, but partly cloudy, windy and cool to cold elsewhere.
The Western Cape sees fine, cool to warm conditions, with some cloud over the northeast.
DAILY SNOW REPORT: WHY THE EASTERN CAPE’S WARNING FINALLY EASED
This week’s system has moved through in stages, from Tuesday’s Orange Level 6 disruptive snow warning down to Wednesday’s lighter high-ground snow risk, and now to Thursday’s advisory-level cold and icy roads warning.
Very cold conditions persist along the Drakensberg and over the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, with isolated showers and rain continuing along the KZN coast and adjacent interior.
I’ve watched this system taper off day by day. It’s a good reminder that “easing” doesn’t always mean “over” for higher ground areas.
