Wednesday, 12 August’s Daily Snow Report shows the week’s cold front finally clearing the Eastern Cape, with calmer conditions returning even as a new warning develops along the coast.
SAWS has activated a Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging wind and waves between Table Bay and Port Alfred. A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging interior winds and dust storms now covers the northern West Coast District, Witzenberg municipality and the Namakwa district until Thursday evening.

SAWS also warns of extremely high fire danger over Khai-Ma, Nama-Khoi and Kamiesberg in the Northern Cape, along with Matzikama and Bergrivier in the Western Cape.
Cloudy, cold conditions ease in from the west
According to SAWS, Gauteng can expect cloudy, cold weather with light, isolated showers over the southern parts at first.
Mpumalanga follows a similar pattern, cloudy and cold with isolated showers except in the extreme north-west, turning very cold in the south.
Limpopo and the North West see cloudy, windy and cold to cool conditions with isolated showers over their eastern parts.
The Northern Cape stays fine and warm over the extreme west, but partly cloudy and cool to cold elsewhere.
The Western Cape sees fine conditions over the south and west, but partly cloudy, cold to cool weather inland.
Daily Snow Report: snow lingers over the high ground as the front clears slower than expected
Most of the week’s snowfall was expected to clear by today, though forecasters had already flagged that the higher ground over KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State and the Eastern Cape could hang onto light snow longer than the rest of the country.
That’s exactly what’s played out. Light morning snowfall remains possible over KwaZulu-Natal’s north-western high ground, the Free State’s extreme east and the Eastern Cape’s north-eastern high ground.
Anyone still travelling through these areas should take the same precautions as earlier in the week.
I’ve tracked this system since the first Daily Snow Report warning went out. It has genuinely held on longer over the high ground than most forecasts suggested.
